What Self-care Really Means
SELF-CARE is a way of life for me. Chiropractic adjustments, nourishing food, and long walks are a regular part of my week. But self-care for me also means self-love, self-improvement, and self-healing. I work to ensure the most authentic, aligned version of me shows up in the world.
Self-care means getting clear on what’s important to me – focusing on that every day. Doing that ONE THING everyday to work towards my ideal life.
Self-care is Often a Very Unbeautiful Thing
It means looking at where you are, where you’re going, and changing if you’re unhappy.
Self-care “often means looking your failures and disappointments square in the eye and re-strategizing. IT IS NOT SATIATING YOUR IMMEDIATE DESIRES. It is letting go. It is choosing new. It is disappointing some people. It is making sacrifices for others. It is living a way that other people won’t, so maybe you can live in a way that other people can’t.” –BRIANA WEIST
Taking Ownership of Your Authentic Identity is Self-care
Taking full responsibility for my self-care means maximizing my time while expressing my full authentic, aligned self.

Mindful Gratitude is Self-care
Take time to look around you and choose to actively FEEL GRATEFUL.
We can be thankful for what we have, thankful for the ability to strive to our higher purpose, thankful for our friends, our family, and our homes. If we can eat, drink, and be merry AND recognize that being able to do this is a gift , can we help but feel incredibly happy?
A few years ago I was walking with a dear friend when she found a few discarded pennies on the road. She happily exclaimed, “A lucky Penny!” She shared with me that she has a jar of lucky pennies and they remind her of the good in this world.
Ever since that day I’ve been tossing pennies to the world. Sometimes I sit and wait for the lucky person who finds their penny. Watching the sweet smile that always spreads across their face brings me joy.
Next time you see a penny, take a moment and acknowledge something you are grateful for. PRACTICING GRATITUDE WILL BRING YOU HAPPINESS. Spread some joy and toss a penny.
In those challenging moments of life, hold tight to a penny and know that someone is grateful for you. Make a mindful choice to be grateful. Give yourself joy and comfort. Take care of your entire self.
Do the work of making those hard choices while maintaining a sense of the big picture you want for your life. Commit to authenticity and alignment. The rest will follow. I promise. That’s what it means to practice self-care.
